A future, unimaginably distant…
The sun, now in its dotage is a swollen maroon orb. It stutters and blinks. At any moment it may finally go out.
Earth, immensely old… Dig anywhere and find a buried city or the shore of a vanished sea. Deodand-haunted woods stretch from decadent Kaiin to the Land of the Falling Wall. Erbs and grue hunt in the wilds. Isolated villages embrace surprising customs. Larger towns favor debauchery and mincing murder.
Magic, rich and colourful… Enchantment shapes the world. Any dabbler may know a few simple cantraps. Magicians in lavish manses struggle to master Earth’s last great spells, while all-powerful cabals intrigue against rivals or plot revenge for ancient feuds.
Visit the Dying Earth
Enter this vivid world in the first roleplaying game authorized by master fantasist Jack Vance. Here, a flashing sword is less important than nimble wits, persuasive words, and a fine sense of fashion. Create an adventurer for any of three different kinds of stories:
- a typical mortal such as Cugel the Clever, surviving by wits and cunning;
- an ambitious magician searching for lost lore, like Turjan of Miir;
- a supreme mage to rank with Rhialto the Marvellous, commanding the omnipotent but quarrelsome sandestins.
The Dying Earth features easy, fast-playing rules that encourage creativity and interaction. No knowledge of Jack Vance’s work is needed for play, but fans of the stories will enjoy the comprehensive summary of the world’s places, creatures, and known spells.

It’s being laid out.

Fantastic! I have recently discovered the wonderful worlds of Jack Vance, and the DE RPG seems to have captured the setting and atmosphere perfectly.
I bought a hardcover copy when DERPG first came out in 2001. Is there a new version, in PDF form? That includes editorial corrections.
Thanks.
Thanks for the comment – there is a newer version called the Dying Earth Revivification Folio – you can see it here.
If you email us at support@dyingearth.com, we can send you through the PDF for your hardback.
The new version is the Dying Earth Revivification Folio.

Hello! In the DERPG rulebook is referenced a certain “Adventure Checklist” also called “Adventure Worksheet” that can be downloaded from DyingEarth.com.
It’s not there! :-D
I’m interested in getting a copy of this document. Would you let me know if you know where I could get one?
Thanks in Advance!
We’ve searched through all our old files, but we can’t find anything like this; we believe this inclusion in the book is an error, sorry about that.
Any Gaean Reach projects in the pipeline?
Not at present. But if and when there are, we’ll be sure to let you all know in See Page XX.
Will this new release include corrections to the original release?
Thanks for reaching out. There is not presently a new release coming out.
nice
Question: has anyone, anywhere done any scenarios for The Gaean Reach beyond the one in the game book? I ask because I’m mildly interested in running a session, but I suspect that if I hand around the book, at least one of my players will “whoops” read through to the end.
Scenarios from other games that can be reskinned / adapted to TGR would be fine too.
Thanks in advance,
Doug M.
Hi Doug. The GUMSHOE RPG community on Facebook would be the best place to ask if anybody has done any scenarios for The Gaean Reach. Thanks, Becky.
