What, Pray Tell, Is a Revivification Folio?
This book presents a new, streamlined way to introduce and play the Dying Earth Roleplaying Game. It presents a slightly tuned version of the Skulduggery rules system, as also seen in the standalone rulebook of the same name.
You do not need the Skulduggery book to play the game. All the rules you need to play appear in this exquisitely presented folio.
The adjusted rules presented in this volume address the primary stumbling blocks GMs confronted when pitching the game to their groups. Some players demonstrated regrettable resistance to the setting’s piquant ironies. Many feared that they couldn’t muster the verbal eloquence it calls for. Then they would play. Within moments, aided by the tagline system and the reversal-filled core mechanics, they’d be spouting perfect Vancian dialogue, backstabbing and swindling with aplomb.
The Revivification Folio rules get players started within minutes. They set aside the extended, decision-heavy character generation of the original version for a system based on the random distribution of cards, which together take the place of a conventional character sheet. Players step more readily outside their established comfort zones when you can get them playing right away. When they spend less time creating their characters, they’re more open to seeing them meet the ironic comeuppances the game so often demands. Now you can immerse them in the unique vibe of the game before they have time to doubt their ability to keep up. Changes to the tagline rules bring them to the forefront. They train players to speak in elevated Vancian lingo.
Entering the Dying Earth has never been easier.

I await its release with baited breath.
When will this be out? I’m soooo looking forward to getting it!
As a co-owner of virtually (somewhat literally, as many were purchased by download) every piece of Pelgrane Dying Earth product, I am most interested in this work. Although our group use the original compendia without recourse to arcane or potentially spurious variation from the pure dogma, nonetheless a certain scholastic penchant induces us to consider parting with yet more terces for this work, if only for the visual equivalent of gustatorial sampling.
It is our existential purpose to serve your every whim in this matter.
This is exactly why I don’t play this game.
Have you considered our many other fine offerings?
Will it be backwards compatible?
In order to demonstrate both my capacity and desire for simplicity and brevity in both thought and deed, allow me to say, simply, “w00t!”
Also, any thoughts regarding its estimated time of arrival?
You have a gift for elegant précis! January has a certain insouciant plausibility for a release date.
Out of curiosity, does the release date loom any closer?
Also, will this Folio allow you to play any level of character out of the box, from cugel to Rhialto? And will the supplements still be of use?
The supplements will still be of use. Thse rules are for Cugel-level characters.
*sighs*
Will there at least be notes on how to convert/design Turjan- or Rhialto-level characters? I really think the Skulduggery system would *sing* at Rhialto-level play.
I mis-spoke. There are extensive notes on Rhialto level play, including Sandestin Negotiation, Contests of Sandestin Magic, and Duels.
My countenance is one of beatific satisfaction.
What about Turjan-level play, or is that adequately covered, do you think, by minor extrapolation from the Cugel rules?
Turjan is covered by Cugel play and mentioned specifically a few times.
Want.

Come now, where is the tome? The bookshelves of my manse are bereft of new additions and the wefkins are terribly upset!
scratch that… I misread… Alas, the creep of inaccuracy.
Hi, I was looking for the so mentioned cards to play. I’ve bought this beatifull book (in dead tree) and it would be a shame to force the book to photocopy the cards. Is there any resource o blank sheet I could use?

Are the basic character sheets in the Grand Perdusz meant to have magic ratings? Its implied they do on the character sheet of Fley (p4) and the section on free form casting. I don’t want to give Cugels the 8 ratings in the free form cards for long campaigns.
