Review of Trail of Cthulhu

A great and thorough review of Trail of Cthulhu from A Game of Whit’s. You can read the full review here.

Trail of Cthulhu overall provides a very complete gaming system that has a well thought-out structure and encourages investigative play by closely following the spirit of the genre. It may be a bit revolutionary for some gamers and Call of Cthulhu loyalists, but it gives a whole new way to experience the Lovecraft’s Mythos.

Review of Trail of Cthulhu

I don’t know how I missed this rather amusing review of Trail of Cthulhu on I Pants The Dwarf.

There’s one other thing that Trail of Cthulhu changed out, and it’s not only a doozy, it’s the game’s saving grace and the number one reason you should try this version.

Each high-level being is described in terms of the mythos, and then numerous suggestions and interpretations of what the being is, sometimes in terms of conventional science and magic, sometimes not even that well nailed down. The GM can pick, choose, and mix his own, keeping the investigators in the dark and on their toes until the time of the reveal.

You missed it originally because that blog has a shockingly low readership. It lists four “regular” readers, who are probably bored of the hiatus I seem to have taken on writing. (I really must write more.) But when your number one category of visitor is the Ukrainian domain name taster, it’s hard not to get discouraged.

Still, I hope “rather amusing” means you kind of liked it, more or less.

From me, “rather amusing” is a complement of rare quality. Why don’t you write something for Page XX to broaden your audience? You might get some South Korean golf enthusiasts spmming you as well.

Review of Trail of Cthulhu

A well written and engaging review of Trail of Cthulhu by Emily Dresner.

…the section on the Cthulhu Elder Gods/Outer Gods is superb and packed with so many incredibly insane ideas for running plots it is hard to talk about it without waving hands around incoherently. One small sentence about Elder Gods as meme loads was so compelling it was a hot topic in my house for three days. If you’re into CoC at all, this is worth getting to juice up campaigns and take them to 11.
