13th Age Playtest: Two Requests from Rob Heinsoo

13th Age Round Two Playtest badgeDear 13th Age playtesters,

I’ve got two requests: one to playtesters who were with us in the first round, and one to everyone in the second round playtest.

Though the second round playtest document didn’t reflect it, I read all your comments from the first round and highlighted every case in which we are making changes. We’re now incorporating those changes, including things like:

  • Adjusting the final adventure to offer more player options and control
  • Checking low-level math
  • Adding the feat list
  • And so on.

Given that I am going to read through all the second round playtest results soon, it will be a huge help if first round playtesters do not repeat their earlier comments. I understand that objections and suggestions will still seem necessary, since the text didn’t budge before we started the second round. But digging through repetitions of your earlier feedback will slow me down and delay progress through the second round. Feel free to say “I stand by my earlier comments!” But don’t re-insert them into the feedback.

And to everyone who is providing feedback, one further request: put your name and email address somewhere at the top of the document you send. The way in which the playtest reports come in means that I have some interesting reports that I can’t quite place with a specific playtester. I haven’t caught up on corresponding with people, and it will be easier for me going forward if reports that are submitted as documents clearly show who sent them in.

I hope you are Enjoying This Playtest and I look forward to reading your thoughts on the game.

– Rob

I heard about 13th Age from some forums over at WotC so I came over to see what it’s all about. Therein lies my problem. Try as I might, I can’t find any information on this site that says what exactly 13th Age is, what are the design goals, development plan, or anything else. All I’ve seen so far are some letters to playtesters and some behind the scenes look at artwork. Is this a d20 system built using the OGL? Is it supposed to be an old-school D&D type game or a 4e style game or what? Can someone point me to more information on this game so I can see what it’s all about?
